HOT AUGUST NIGHTS 25th ANNIVERSARY 2011

Hot August Nights, a 25 year tradition, registers 6,000 pre-1972 cars from across the world.  Click HERE to visit HAN web.  Reno becomes the holy city of old car enthusiasts for the week.

Rodger Busse, THE RUST DOCTOR, has shared his 1996 Ford paramedic ambulance, 1969 Pontiac Bonneville ambulance, and sales booth for 5 years.  We anticipate the adventurous road trip enjoying memories and ideas.

We enjoy it all:  selling THE RUST DOCTOR by day, cruising in the Bonneville by night, admiring cars, a Basque dinner with others from Rogue Valley, avoiding casinos, dusting displays and Bonneville, embedded in the Rock ‘n Roll car culture of America.

Swap Meet vendors share tales of success and woe, help each other, and enjoy customers’ stories.  Old rusty cars, parts, tools, new bumpers, collectible trinkets, manuals, restored museum quality vehicles are all for sale.  Challenge:  think of something old car related not at the swap meet?

Riding the cruises through casino parking lots, down Virginia Street in Reno, and Victorian in Sparks is exciting.  Lights flashing, siren wailing, the Bonneville brings smiles to all, though some put fingers in their ears while grinning.  Sparks is the best, a family event.  Cruisers are close enough to the crowds to ‘high five’ the 100′s of happy children and adults.  A woman extended her hand, forgetting her water, I gave her five and got the water bottle.

1969 Bonneville Returns to Bonneville

Rodger Busse and friends restored the 1969 Pontiac Bonneville ambulance (The Rust Doctor) in Ashland, Oregon USA. A nine-year project, the vehicle promotes The Rust Doctor, Rodger’s business.

Rodger traced her history to Superior Coach Company, Kosciusko, Mississippi. Initially used in the Salt Lake City area, as she aged a Fire District near Bonneville Salt Flats purchased her sometime in late 1970′s. During our visit we met Wendover, Utah Mayor Mike Crawford. He remembers the Bonneville as the owner who purchased from the fire district had Ghost Busters on the ambulance. NOTE: The Ghostbusters ambulance was a 1959 Cadillac. Rodger purchased the Bonneville in Arizona.

Photos below show the Bonneville at Bonneville, sunset August 8 and mid morning August 9, 2011. Mayor Mike is the Corvette owner. We drove the Bonneville 13 miles onto the salt while crews set up for Speed Week to begin on August 11.
